If you’ve seen the film True Lies, you may remember the U.S. Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier ‘Jump Jet’ used by Arnie against Art Malik’s terrorist leader during the movie’s finale. The scene may have been somewhat far-fetched, but the aircraft itself – a full-scale replica with no working parts – was convincing.
True Lies, however, wasn’t the Harrier’s only appearance on the big screen. It may have been a mere movie prop, but this particular Jump Jet, built in 1994, was destined for greater wars. So much so that the mock-up was reused in The Avengers and suffered serious structural damage at the hands of The Hulk.

The replica Harrier’s landing gear and canopy were reportedly real, but the main airframe was fiberglass. So when The Hulk smashed through the rear fuselage, the model was left broken and splintered, and in need of some serious TLC.
But good news came in the form of a restoration effort that would ultimately see the True Lies Harrier fixed up and displayed at the Volo Auto Museum in Illinois.
