Old and new (sort of, this photograph was taken in December 1990) are pictured together as an A-7 Corsair attack aircraft of the US Navy passes a long-abandoned, ruined fort in the desert of Saudi Arabia. The photo was taken on a low-level training sortie during the first Gulf War’s Operation Desert Shield – the defence of Saudi Arabia and build-up of forces in the run-up to Operation Desert Storm.
The A-7E Corsair belonged to VA-72 Blue Hawks of Carrier Air Wing Three, stationed aboard the Kitty Hawk class aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy. More some more unfortunate A-7 jets, click here.
