In true urban exploration fashion, photographer Dan Raven doesn’t divulge the locations of his most impressive discoveries – and there are plenty of them. Frustrating for some, perhaps, but in keeping quiet he’s helping protect potentially fragile locations from those who would seek to inflict damage upon them, while adding to the esoteric nature of the urbex community in general. After all, were it not for them, many amazing places would simply disappear from the map completely.
Tagging them on Flickr with “UE Uncle Sams” – which offers some insight into the history of these wartime relics – Raven uncovered a collection of vintage US Army trucks while exploring an abandoned warehouse. Though the warehouse itself is tagged as “abandoned”, the vehicles seem to be in a good state of repair.
Clustered together, they sit quietly amid a variety of other large automotive spare parts and what appear to be the faded shells of vintage motor cars. The national insignia painted on several of the vehicles suggests that they once belonged to the US Army, though the haunting collection is understood to be in Belgium.
One abandoned vehicle resembles the Morris Commercial C8 FAT (Field Artillery Tractor), known as the Quad, which was used by British and Commonwealth forces during World War Two. The imposing vehicle was capable of towing heavy artillery weapons like the Ordnance 25-pounder field gun and howitzer, as well as Quick-Firing 17-pounder anti-tank guns.
In addition, one of the ex-US Army vehicles carries the decidedly British license plate GCJ 475, which RegArchive.com described as a pre-1963 number first registered in Herefordshire, England. The old warehouse and its impressive collection look like an enthusiast’s dream, and perhaps in time these seemingly-abandoned military vehicles will find new homes.
