Eerie photos of this derelict military fort, with all its empty corridors, stairways, barracks, bedrooms, passageways, halls and ancillary buildings, can be seen on Wikimedia Commons. The gloomy and desolate set of ruins are those of Fort de la Chartreuse, a 19th century stronghold built to defend the old steel-making city of Liege, Belgium, nestled on a spot once occupied by a Carthusian monastery.
