Camp Pendleton, in Southern California’s San Diego County, is an vast Marine Corps base that encompasses an expansive military firing range. So it’s hardly surprising that the area is littered with the wreckage of old aircraft, tanks and trucks – and this F-4 Phantom looks as though it’s taken a direct hit.
It’s not something you’d want to explore without getting permission and taking serious precautions – a). because it’s off-limits to the public in the middle of a military bombing range and b). because of the local rattlesnake population (this author very nearly stepped on one a couple of years ago in Colorado!). But if any readers out there know the Phantom’s coordinates or fancy trying to locate it on Google Earth, drop us a note and we’ll feature it!
