Abandoned steps to nowhere are often strangely atmospheric places, like these moss-covered examples at the former RNAS Almondbank in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. The eerie ruined steps are part of a decommissioned Royal Navy aircraft repair depot and stores yard, which was built in 1940 and accessed via a short railway branch line. The nearby Almondbank is also long closed. They may not be among the most impressive military relics of World War Two, but like other ruins both great and small, they have their own unique tale to tell.
